Neskowin Ghost Forest on a foggy day

Neskowin Ghost Forest

Just a 20-minute drive south of the Inn at Cape Kiwanda lies one of the Oregon Coast’s most mysterious natural wonders: the Neskowin Ghost Forest. Here, ancient Sitka spruce stumps, believed to be nearly 2,000 years old, stand rooted in the sand, remnants of a massive earthquake or tsunami that buried the forest centuries ago. Revealed after a winter storm in the late 1990s, the eerie stumps emerge at low tide and offer a fascinating, otherworldly glimpse into the region’s geologic past.

    Oregon’s King Tides

Plan your trip to the Inn at Cape Kiwanda to coincide with the magnificent King Tides — the highest tides of the year, occurring when the sun and moon align to create stronger gravitational pulls on the Earth’s oceans. Along the Oregon Coast, these dramatic tides typically occur in winter and offer a striking view of the ocean’s power.
